Artist: Stephen Millership

Stephen Millership - emerger
MILLERSHIP, Stephen (UK)

After studying Art at Derby Lonsdale and then working as a marker visualiser, concept artist, storyboard illustrator, freelance illustrator and over a period of thirteen years, a computer games artist, I decided to return to painting. I wanted to perfect a style, which drew on my previous skills sets, combining speed with economy of colour and intense observation. I found the skills I attained in the early days of computer games of great benefit. At that time I worked with a palate of 16 or 32 colours which concentrates the mind on searching for exactly the right colour, hue or tonal value. A frequent visitor to the coast, I find its ever-changing colours and moods fascinating, nowhere more so than on a holiday in France. After climbing a ridge of sand dunes I was confronted by a pure white beach, a churning turquoise sea and a brooding deep green sky. The simplicity of this composition stayed with me and I began to experiment with these basic elements.
